Bug reports that show exactly what happened

A two-line ticket starts a long thread of questions. A short recording answers them before anyone asks: what you clicked, what you pressed and what went wrong, with each step zoomed in so it can be read.

Why Reframe for bug reports

How to record bug reports with Reframe

  1. Open the page with the bug, click the Reframe icon (or press Ctrl+Shift+Y) and choose This tab.
  2. Press Record and reproduce the bug at a normal pace. Pause with Ctrl+Shift+U if you need to set something up.
  3. Stop with the icon. The editor opens with a zoom on every click already in place.
  4. Cut anything that isn’t part of the bug, then export an MP4, or a GIF for very short clips.
  5. Attach the file to your ticket in Jira, Linear, GitHub or wherever your team tracks bugs.

Tips

  • Turn on Show keys in the editor’s Keys tab so shortcuts appear in the video.
  • Record a single tab rather than your whole screen: clicks are only tracked in tabs, and that keeps the zooms automatic.
  • Use the Low or Standard quality for small files that attach easily.

Questions

Does Reframe record what I type?

No. Only shortcuts such as Ctrl+C or Enter are noted, so they can be shown on screen. Typed text, passwords and card numbers are never captured.

Can I record the browser console too?

A tab recording shows only the page. To include DevTools, record the window instead; there you add zooms yourself with one key (Z).
