Video compressor

Shrink a video so it fits in an email, a ticket or a chat. Pick a quality and a maximum size; the video is re-encoded on your own computer.

How to use the video compressor

  1. Choose a video, or drop it on the box.
  2. Pick a quality and a maximum size. Smaller sizes and lower quality make smaller files.
  3. Press Compress, watch the result, and download it.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser using its built-in video encoder. The file never leaves your computer.

What format do I get?

MP4 (H.264) where your browser can make it, which is most of them. Otherwise WebM, which plays in every modern browser.

Why is my file not much smaller?

Some videos are already compressed well. Choose a smaller maximum size or “Smallest file”, or remove the sound if you don’t need it.

Is there a size limit?

Only your computer’s memory. Very large or long videos can take a while; you can stop at any time.

Recording your screen?

Reframe is our free Chrome extension: it records a tab, window or screen and zooms in wherever you click, then exports MP4, WebM or GIF. Like this tool, it keeps everything on your computer.
